Dack Builds is where I write up the smart home and homelab projects I run in a rented apartment, including the parts that did not work the first time.
I am Dack. I have spent more than ten years fixing and supporting consumer tech, and now I mostly build things that talk to Home Assistant. Because I rent, every project has one rule: I have to be able to undo it, or patch it, before the lease is up.
What you will find here
Build logs with the real parts list, the dead ends, and the fix that finally worked. A post usually starts with a problem I actually had, like a ceiling fan with no smart option or an intercom that only knows how to buzz.
